Home Toyota Recalls & Lawsuits 2009- 2010 Toyota Recalls & Lawsuit Informatio 22,000 Toyota Vehicles Recalled due to Faulty Tire-Deflation Monitoring Systems

083761.11-lgOn Friday Toyota issued another recall - this time affecting 22,000 certain model year 2008-2011 Toyota FJ Cruisers, Land Cruisers, Sequoias, Tacomas, and Tundras.

These vehicles, according to the report filed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 138, "Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)." According to NHTSA, "the tire pressure monitoring systems [on these vehicles] were not re-calibrated correctly and therefore do not start illuminating the low tire pressure warning..." The inability of these vehicles to notify drivers when the tire pressure is low could lead to tire blowouts, accidents, and injuries.

The vehicles recalled were apparently originally equipped with properly functioning TPM Systems, but when accessory tires were installed, the systems were not re-calibrated. Toyota recommends that owners bring their recalled vehicle into the nearest dealership, where they will re-initialize the tire pressure monitoring system free of charge.

Although Toyota Motor Corporation has not yet provided an owner notification schedule, owners can contact either Toyota at 1-800-331-4331, or the NHTSA's Vehicle Safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.

This is the latest in a string of Toyota recalls that have affected nearly 15 million vehicles.
