According to a recent NHTSA report, Hyundai is planning to recall 70,115 model year 2006-2008 Kia Optimas that were manufactured from September 2005 through June 2007. There is a possibility that the shift cable in these vehicles was improperly installed, which could create a tension upon the cable, ultimately preventing the transmission from shifting properly and keeping it locked in the last used position. If this occurs and the driver does not utilize the parking break when parked, the vehicle could roll.
Hyundai is initiating the recall this month. Dealers will inspect vehicles and replace the shift cable, if necessary, free of charge. For more information contact Hyundai at 1-800-333-4542 or the NHTSA's Vehicle Safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
