Home Car Recalls & Warnings Toyota Sienna Minivan Recall

Toyota has recalled 94,000 2011 Toyota Siennas. According to Autoblog, "the recall is a result of a Stop Lamp Switch Bracket placed near the parking brake. When the parking brake is fully applied it may deform the switch bracket. This could result in the brake lights remaining lit or even a partial engagement of the brakes, resulting in a reduction of brake effectiveness over time." This defect only affects models manufactured before November 2010.

Designed to replace the Toyota Previa, the Toyota Sienna is a family minivan that was developed in 1997. As of 2011, the Toyota Sienna is the only minivan it its class to offer all-wheel drive, and won a top-safety pick award from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.

No accidents, injuries, or deaths have been reported as a result of the faulty bracket. In addition, Toyota has stated that Sienna owners "will receive an interim notification advising them of this recall by first class mail beginning in mid-January 2011, along with instructions for what to do if they experience this condition, and how to minimize the possibility of inadvertently contacting the stop lamp switch bracket while operating the parking brake." In mid-February, Toyota owners will receive another notification which will allow them to make a service appointment at any Toyota dealership to have the problem fixed, free of charge.
